Custom Prototype Parts

Prototyping Benefits

Why does a successful product start with a solid prototype? Because changing a prototype is simple. Changing a part when you’ve already produced thousands of them – that’s harder and a lot more expensive. Prototyping offers a wide range of benefits that will have a positive impact on your bottom line. Prototyping:

  • Speeds the process – get your product to market faster
  • Helps reduce mistakes that can cost you money
  • Eliminates unnecessary features early in the process
  • Reveals weaknesses early on
  • Allows you to create parts with complex geometries
  • Decreases the need for engineering changes down the road
  • Extends the life of the final product

Prototyping Services

As a full-service metal shop, we offer a complete range of services to help you create a successful prototype. By providing design assistance, top-shelf customer service, fast delivery and meticulous quality control, we help our customers reach their goals. Contact us for more information.

Design Assistance

Prototypes are easy to revise and change – but what if you’re not sure how to change it? Our engineers can bring fresh sets of eyes to your prototype. Design assistance is one of the services we offer with the goal of ensuring that our customers succeed.  Our team of engineers has extensive experience with precision prototyping.

Fast Delivery

At Prototype & Short-Run Services, we can deliver prototypes in as little as two weeks. We do everything we can to ensure that you win the race to the marketplace.

Quality Control

Video comparators help us perform a close-tolerance inspection. In fact, we’re able to check dimensions down to five decimal places. The CNC technology we use helps us form intricate, delicate parts, some with thicknesses as small as 0.0008". We also offer SPC, which is available upon request.

Our Equipment

To make precise prototypes, we use state-of-the-art Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology. We use presses, mills, lathes, grinders, welders and other machinery to precisely replicate our customers’ complex designs. We load CAD models into our CNC computers, and the computers tell our machines what to do. This method eliminates inconsistency and dramatically reduces human error.

Industries Served

At Prototype  & Short-Run Services, we provide prototype assistance to customers in a broad range of industries, including:

Because we have experience with a broad range of industries and products, we are confident that we can help you create a prototype that will serve as the foundation of a successful product launch. Even if you don’t see your industry on this list, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our engineers have the knowledge and intuition necessary for developing successful prototypes – for any industry.

History of Prototyping

Humans have been creating prototyping since the very first stone tools. Prototyping with CNC machining began in the late 1960s. Herbert Voelcker, an engineering professor, was the first to experiment with computer-controlled machine tools. Throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s, prototyping with CNC machining evolved to become the efficient, precise and reliable process that it is today.
