Other Processes
Prototype & Short-Run Services, Inc. specializes in short-run metal stampings and prototyping. However, we also offer an extended roster of other processes extending beyond metal stampings, to further develop each product. These processes go beyond the original design concept and sample creation, into the finishing steps. One of our strengths at Prototype & Short-Run Services is our work in non-destructive testing of new parts, and the Quality Control standards we adhere to. Count on us to create metal stampings and other parts that perform as promised, and to continue working to strengthen all the steps in the process. In the long run, that creates a better product, as well as the best working relationship.
At Prototype & Short-Run Services, Inc. we also offer a whole roster of additional processes. Call on Prototype &
Short-Run Services to assist with deburring and heat treating. Heat treatment is a manufacturing technique used to
alter the hardness and toughness of a material, such as any given metal. Another process, plating, involves
surface-covering techniques in which a metal is deposited onto a conductive surface. Plating is most important
and effective as a way to inhibit corrosion.
Tapping is a general metalworking tool, typically used for the creation, through cutting, of screw threads into metal stampings and parts. The related process of threading involves the use of a screw and nut pair to convert torque into linear force. Screw threads are used as fasteners between parts and in machines. Threading has two main functions: to convert rotary motion in to linear motion, and to prevent linear motion without the corresponding rotation.
Prototype & Short-Run Services, Inc. also offers the processes
of welding and passivation. The common practice of welding
is a fabrication process that joins materials, such as two
metals, by melting the workpieces and adding a filler material
to form a pool of molten material that cools to becomes a
strong joint. Passivation is the process of making a material
“passive” in relation to another material. This is sometimes
a necessary task to prepare the two materials for use together.
Some corrosion inhibitors help in the formation of a passivation
layer on the surface of the metals to which they are applied.
At Prototype & Short-Run Services, we also finish the
job with simple, but important, finishing processes such as
painting and hardware installation. These additional elements
take products to new levels, and bring them closer to the
marketplace. Some or all of these processes may greatly enhance
the success of your next product. Ask Prototype & Short-Run
Services, Inc. how to make that happen.
